Description

View a VIDEO CLIP of this historic property that stands proudly on a pretty block with mature trees. In 1913, a local builder constructed his own family home - it was only to have the strongest materials and best finishes.

Features

There is still that sense of prominence to the property which starts with a Southern style veranda being cooled by an immense Chestnut tree. You are welcomed into the impressive foyer with a bay window seating area with a rich patina to the wood panels. The gracious entertainment areas still have period lighting fixtures, Arts and Crafts inspired built-ins and irreplaceable bevelled leaded crystal windows. Generally, such extensive use of the Craftsman style was more commonly found in the Eastern U.S. states. As a result, the undiminished character in the large principal rooms have been filmed for several Vancouver based movies and pilot productions with settings as diverse as Pennsylvania and Cape Cod.

The much-loved home stayed within the family for a long time. In the 1950's only the daughter was living there and there was no longer a need for such a large house. Sections of the second floor and the entire third floor were cleverly divided off to create a completely separate rental apartment which was accessed by an exterior staircase. This created a generous three bedroom suite with a formal living room, large dining room, and a kitchen featuring a tiled sink and orginal cupboards.

The third and present owners of the property bought the house in the early 1980's. They have been diligent in maintaining the fabric of the Craftsman style rooms, while modernising the more casual areas. In addition, the plumbing, heating and electrical systems were upgraded and there has been an introduction of a bright one bedroom garden suite. This brings the total accommodation to seven bedrooms and four bathrooms. Upon viewing, you will better appreciate the excellent rental return, the possibilities of further alterations, or the simplicity of returning this property back to a single family home.
